The checkmark character appears to the left of the field if there is space before the field. If no space is available for the checkmark, it overwrites the character to the left of the menu field. If the menu field starts in column 0, it overwrites the first character in the menu field.
You should keep this in mind when placing menu fields in the menu window. Leave a space in front of the menu field when placing the menu fields. For instance, in vertical menus, place the menu fields starting in column 1 or 2 (column numbers start at 0). In horizontal menus, make sure there is enough space between fields for a checkmark character. Alternatively, you can insert one or more spaces at the beginning of the menu field strings (e.g., " XMODEM").
You must place the menu fields appropriately in the menu window or leave a space in the field string, even if you specify AUTOSIZE for a menu form. The system will not add spaces in front of menu fields to account for the room needed for the checkmark characters.
