Suspending a Form vs. Quitting or Exiting a Form

When the user wishes to leave a modal form, he must choose whether or not to save the data he has entered. If he exits from the form, the data he entered is saved. If he quits from the form, the data is lost. He cannot leave the form without indicating what he wants to happen to the data.

If the form is non-modal, however, the user has a third option. He can temporarily suspend the form, do another task, and then return to the form. When he suspends the form, the form is left in its current, incomplete state. When he returns to the form, it is still in this incomplete state. He does not have to decide whether to save the data until he is ready to exit or quit from the form.
